Investigation

We noticed that, on the day of our last general election (4 July 2024), the Independent reported that there was a "Huge voter turnout". Then, in the morning of 5 July, they reported that the turnout was "on track to be the lowest for more than 20 years". The images below are screenshots from the 4 and 5 July 2024.

Why the contradiction? Could it be because, although there were record numbers of us casting ballot papers, those additional ballot papers were being cast spoilt (and therefore not contributing to turnout figures)? But if that's the case, why were the 'invalid votes' figures not higher? Could this be because the published 'invalid votes' figures were not consistent with the true number of ballot papers that were cast spoilt? These reports by the Independent need investigating. In the mean time, we need to register electoral observers for the next general election. If you would like to be one, please register using the link provided on the "Electoral Observers" page of this website, then let us know that you have registered by using the form on that page.
