To Our Monarch
What follows is an open letter from ReformUK.org to our monarch.
To our monarch,
Your family and its ancestors have ruled our country for centuries. Our country was once a proud and prosperous nation, and it was under your ancestors' leadership that we achieved that. But our country is no-longer proud and no-longer prosperous. Perhaps you have been shielded from the problems in our country, but we can tell you, from our perspective on the ground, that things are dreadful. Our country's problems are not superficial in nature. They are deep-rooted. The very fabric of society has been torn apart. We have no common identity, values, language, goals, and plan. Political leadership is weak and ineffective. Society is becoming increasingly fractured, tribal, and dysfunctional. Policing is becoming increasingly ineffective because of a lack of trust in governance and our justice system. Governance is becoming increasingly corrupt because those who fund it (all of us apart from you and your family!) cannot vote in a government of our choosing. Your first priority, as our country's leader and commander in chief, is to unite us and keep us safe, but we aren't united, and we don't feel safe.
At the heart of our country's problems is poor governance and leadership. You may not be active in politics, but your loyal MPs serve you. So you are, ultimately, our leader. And, as a consequence of the way we do politics, the leadership of our country is ineffective. A ship with an ineffective captain is in a perilous state. The captain, the crew, the ship itself, and anything in the vicinity of the ship, are all vulnerable. The same principle applies to our country.
Running our country as a monarchy used to be the most effective way for us, but this is no-longer the case. Your ancestors could have turned our country into a dictatorship, but they chose to move us in the direction of a democracy. Unfortunately, they didn't take us all the way. They took us to a messy middle ground that is neither here nor there. They chose not to put in place an effective general-election voting system, and this is what is holding our country back. The voting system fails us, and we must reform it as a matter of urgency. We must do this to bring our people together, to give us identity and purpose, to create stability and cohesion, to empower us, to unlock our potential, to ramp up productivity and efficiency, and to ensure that our country's best politicians-in-waiting are attracted to politics, not repulsed by it.
You have the power, by means of your loyal MPs, to reform the voting system that we use for UK general elections. However, we appreciate that you, and the people who surround you, have great vested interest in the status quo. For us to expect you, or those in the establishment, to risk losing what you/they have to achieve this reform would be unreasonable. And that is where ReformUK.org comes in. We, the 99.9 %, using the ReformUK.org vehicle, will be transferring power from you to all of us, yourself included. Given the rights, liberties, and protections that we currently have, we expect this transfer of power to happen peacefully and amicably.
During this process, as you see us mobilise, and our groundswell materialise, we will welcome the speeding up of the process by the powers that you currently have. Indeed, this may well be in your family's best interests, as you will then have had a positive contribution to this process. You may, of course, take the opposite approach, and oppose our progress. Irrespective of your approach, however, we will not condemn you and the establishment for your actions or inactions. The slide towards a dictatorship, and the increase in corruption, is natural given the concentrated, unaccountable power that you have. It is not your responsibility to correct this, but ours.
When this transition of power from you to us is complete, the UK will be a democracy. At that point, we will not look back on your family and its ancestors with bitterness or condemnation: you were born into your privileged position, and you no doubt acted as most of us would have done in your situation. Your family's privileged status will be gone, and will be resigned to our country's history. For all intents and purposes, you will become one of us, be subjected to the same rules, laws, and constraints as us, and be granted the same freedoms and opportunities as us. We will be united under our (you and those who are currently in the establishment included) parliament and government, and believe in, trust, and look up to our country's political leadership. You and your family, just like the rest of us, will become citizens of a united and proud United Kingdom. This is our vision, and we will be turning this vision into reality by means of the process set out on this website. We invite you and the establishment to be a positive part of this process.
Sincerely,
ReformUK.org
